As-Salaam-Alaikum
(Peace be upon you)
I am an interdisciplinary Muslim artist. The focus is centred on advocating for the advancement of South Asian women by challenging deeply ingrained cultural perceptions and social constructs.
Through my work, I seek to challenge the notion of domestication and promote a new narrative for South Asian women.
With a background in the creative industry spanning over five years, I hold a first-class BA Hons in Art Enterprise and an HND in Performance Arts (Production). My creative practice focuses on exploring relational and concept art, particularly in the context of taboo subjects concerning Muslim and South Asian women.
Themes of shame, honour, and culture and their short and long-term effects on women of Pakistani cultural heritage.
As a British Muslim woman, my creative practice is inspired by my personal experiences and the societal issues within the South Asian community, including gender stereotypes, the female body, tensions between culture and religion, and the expectations of Muslim women.
In summary, my expertise lies in using creative expression to investigate the complex issues women of Pakistani cultural heritage face, particularly emphasising the intersection of culture, religion, and gender.
